Throughout the Holiday Season, we are reminded that we have a lot to be thankful for. We do live in a prosperous nation, with personal freedoms and choice that many only dream of. We should also remember that there are some among us who, perhaps, could use a little help. In the holiday spirit of giving, it’s a great time to give back and help those families out who share our Screaming Eagle heritage and serve the nation. On the 21st of November, we had the pleasure of working with The Fort Campbell Unit Ministry Teams (Chaplains to us old Soldiers), our supporters from Kroger at Dover Crossing in Clarksville, TN and some great volunteer NCOs from 1/75 CAV, 2nd BCT, to deliver the Screaming Eagle Foundation’s 101 Thanksgiving Turkey dinners to Soldiers who could use a hand. Each year, we start in October with the shopping lists, Kroger works on getting us a great deal on food at cost or donated from their vendors, and the Fort Campbell Unit Ministry Teams help identify those families that could use a little something extra. This year I also called on some of my friends and past Soldiers to help me with the logistics and heavy lifting of moving all the food around. After all, 101 frozen turkeys, or holiday hams plus all the fixings and over 500 lbs of potatoes is a whole lot of food! This year it was three truckloads of food after we loaded everything that we were able to deliver to help the Fort Campbell families. We’ll be spreading the same sort of Christmas cheer at the Fort Campbell Armed Services YMCA on the 19th of December with the exception of Christmas ham instead of turkey. We will again be helped some of their volunteers and the Association Headquarters Staff when we distribute the Christmas dinner. A fine meal for a family who could use it is a small gesture in thanks for their military service.
The Screaming Eagle Foundation is able to help Soldiers each year in this way thanks to the warm generosity of our 101st Airborne Division Association Members and our corporate sponsors who support the Screaming Eagle Foundation throughout the each year. You have our sincere thanks for your
help in taking good care of our Screaming Eagles.
