North Carolina Mountains R&R Program
The price of admission is a recent tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan. And who needs a quiet place and time with friends or family more than our active duty soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division, some with multiple deployments? Who would provide such a great opportunity for our soldiers? Bill and Elaine Diercksen, Foscoe, NC, conceived the idea in 2007 welcoming three soldiers and their families to their Seven Devils mountain cabin during that summer. Since then, the Diercksens have requested, persuaded and drafted several of their neighbors to join their effort in saying Thank You to our soldiers in a most unique way. With the assistance of Foscoe Realty, a vacation property manager perfectly situated to orchestrate the plan, the effort has grown with friends with vacation properties and area residents donating property and funds to accommodate more than 38 vacation weeks for more than 40 Screaming Eagle soldiers and their families in 2013.
